RAI Amsterdam
RAI Amsterdam is a multifunctional exhibition and convention centre at Europaplein in Zuidas. Its strategic location – just off the A10 motorway and with train, metro and tram services close by at Amsterdam RAI station – make it the ideal venue for domestic and international visitors alike. The complex welcomes an average annual 1.5 million guests for everything from RAI-wide trade fairs and conferences attracting up to 50,000 attendees to small meetings of a dozen people.
History
RAI Amsterdam has a distinguished history going back to 1893, when it was established as the ‘wheel and automotive industry’ association. In the next hundredplus years it transformed into a worldrenowned convention venue. RAI has borne witness to many historic moments. There was civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr’s speech in 1968, stirring hundreds of people with his message of change. Former US President Bill Clinton, Britain’s Prince Harry and other prominent figures spoke at AIDS2018 about the epidemic’s global impact. And legendary artists like Frank Sinatra, Ike & Tina Turner and U2 have performed here. They all helped to make RAI a true icon of intellectual and creative inspiration.
Sustainability
Amsterdam’s increasing popularity and market developments are bringing a growing number of international, multi-day events to RAI Amsterdam. The convention centre also hosts theatrical productions and public fairs and festivals such as Kingsland and Het Amsterdamse Winterparadijs. RAI’s spatial development plan provides for ongoing operations at Europaplein and a more vigorous focus on sustainability, investing in a balance of social (people), ecological (planet) and economic (profit) value creation. With a growing number of events contributing to these sustainable objectives, RAI has transformed again, from a mere venue into an important player in efforts to advance innovation and sustainability in Amsterdam and beyond.
